It seems that every day I turn on the news there is yet another sign of a potential economic recession. My wife and I live on a meager public educator’s salary, and we make the same economic sacrifices as most Texans: choosing to put off non-essential expenditures, saving what we can, and looking for the best deals available. Why is it then, while Texans tighten their belts, our government continues to expand?

As state representative, I promise to never, ever vote for a tax increase. The answer to a stalling economy is NOT an increased burden on citizens. When the state government finds itself running short, it needs to make the same sacrifices as the rest of us.
